Two kinds of demand

What home services marketing actually has to do

Homeowners find a contractor in one of two moods. Something is broken and they need someone today, or they are planning a project and comparing three companies over a few weeks. Good home services marketing covers both. It puts you in front of the emergency search when it happens, and it stays in front of the planner until they are ready to book.

That takes more than traffic. A lead only becomes a job if someone answers the phone, replies to the form and follows up on the estimate. So we look at the whole path, from the search to the booked job, and fix the weakest part first.

Clicks cost money. Context makes them useful.

  • Something is broken

    They need someone today.

No heat, a burst pipe, a leaking roof. The homeowner searches, scans the map results and calls the first business that looks trustworthy and picks up. Be there, be credible, answer.

    • Map results
    • Answered calls
  • Planning a project

    They’re comparing three companies.

A new system, a remodel, a patio. They read reviews, browse finished work and ask for several estimates over a few weeks. Stay in front of them and follow up until they’re ready to book.

By trade

Home services marketing by trade: what changes from one business to the next

Every trade buys differently. Here is what shapes the plan for the businesses we hear from most.

  • HVAC

    Weather-driven

Demand peaks in the first heat wave and the first cold snap, when repair calls and emergencies spike. Spring and fall are for tune-ups, maintenance plans and replacement quotes. We shift budget toward emergency searches in peak weather and toward maintenance and replacement in the shoulder seasons, and we separate “no heat” calls from equipment quotes in reporting.

    • Seasonal budgets
    • Maintenance plans
    • Repair vs. replacement
  • Plumbing and drain

    Urgent, around the clock

Burst pipes, clogs and failed water heaters are urgent, so after-hours call handling matters as much as the ad. If you don’t answer at 9pm, the next listing will. We schedule ads around the hours you can actually take calls and treat water heater replacement as its own higher-value campaign.

    • Ad scheduling
    • After-hours calls
    • Water heaters
  • Roofing, siding and gutters

    Storm waves, big decisions

Roofing leads come in waves after storms, and replacement is a considered, expensive decision, often involving insurance. Homeowners check reviews, photos of finished work and how long you’ve been in business. Strong project galleries, fast estimate follow-up and remarketing during the decision window matter more than raw lead volume.

    • Project galleries
    • Estimate follow-up
    • Remarketing
  • Electrical

    Urgent repairs, planned upgrades

Electrical work splits into urgent repairs and planned jobs such as panel upgrades, EV chargers and generators. The planned jobs are often higher value and worth their own pages and ads, separate from “electrician near me” emergency searches.

    • Panel upgrades
    • EV chargers
    • Generators
  • Landscaping, lawn care and tree services

    Books before the season

Sign-ups cluster in late winter and early spring, so campaigns should start before the season, not during it. Recurring lawn programs make retention and email as valuable as new leads, and design-build and hardscaping projects need a portfolio people can browse.

    • Pre-season launch
    • Recurring programs
    • Portfolio pages
  • Pest control

    Seasonal, then recurring

Insects and wildlife follow the season, and many customers start with one urgent problem. The marketing goal is turning that first visit into a recurring service plan, so follow-up after the first treatment is part of the plan.

    • Urgent first visit
    • Service plans
    • Follow-up
  • Cleaning services

    Trust wins the first booking

House cleaning and carpet cleaning are repeat purchases where trust decides the first booking. Reviews, clear pricing or estimate steps, and easy online booking do most of the work. Holiday and move-out seasons bring predictable spikes.

    • Reviews
    • Online booking
    • Holiday & move-out
  • Remodeling, kitchens, baths, flooring and painting

    Long research, several estimates

These are planned projects with long research periods. People compare portfolios, read reviews and request several estimates. Service pages for each project type, real project photos, fast estimate replies and a follow-up sequence while they decide make the difference.

    • Project-type pages
    • Real photos
    • Follow-up sequences
  • Garage doors, windows and pools

    Mixed, and seasonal

Garage doors mix emergency repairs with planned replacements. Window and blind projects are considered and showroom-driven. Pool businesses are highly seasonal, with spring openings, fall closings and installation projects booked months ahead. Each needs its budget timed to its own season.

    • Repair vs. replacement
    • Showroom visits
    • Season timing

Local Services Ads

Local Services Ads cover many of these trades, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, landscaping, lawn care, pest control, house cleaning, painting, flooring, garage doors, pool cleaning and pool contracting. Eligibility depends on your category and location, so we check yours before recommending it.

Don’t see your trade? Chimneys, septic, restoration, solar, moving: if homeowners call you to fix, install, clean or protect something, the same system applies.

The system

The home services marketing system we build and run

Four stages, one team. Each hands off to the next, so a search becomes a call and a call becomes a booked job.

  1. Attract

Get found, and show up when they need you now.

Local SEO and your Google Business Profile

Many local searches are decided in the map results and on the Google Business Profile, before anyone visits a website. We keep your profile complete and accurate, with the right categories, service areas, hours, photos and services, and we build service pages and service-area pages that answer real questions instead of swapping city names into the same paragraph. This is slower work: our SEO timeline for initial results is three to six months, and no technique guarantees a ranking or a map placement.

Google Ads and Local Services Ads

Local Services Ads sit at the very top of many home service searches. You pay per lead, not per click, and Google verifies the business before the ads run. Google Ads reaches the searches LSA doesn’t cover, with control over keywords, hours, locations and budgets by service. We manage both, plus Microsoft Advertising, and we are a Google Premier Partner: Google awards that status each year to the top 3% of participating Google Partners in each country.

    Meta ads and remarketing

Roofs, remodels, pools and new HVAC systems are considered over weeks. Facebook and Instagram ads reach homeowners in your service area before they search, and they bring back people who visited your site but didn’t call. Meta lead forms let people ask for an estimate without leaving the app.

  2. Capture

Catch every lead, by phone, form or chat.

    Pages built for one service

Ads should land on fast, mobile pages built for one service, with click-to-call and a short estimate form, not on a homepage that makes people hunt for the phone number.

    Call tracking

Call tracking from CallTrackingMetrics ties each call to the ad, keyword or page that produced it. For many home service businesses the phone call is the conversion, so we count calls like clicks.

    Optional 24/7 AI chat

Late-night visitors can still ask a question and leave their details. An optional AI chat assistant answers common questions and collects the lead for your team.

  3. Convert

Follow up before the lead goes cold.

    Instant text and email follow-up

Leads that come in after hours or during a busy week go cold fast. Instant text and email follow-up and a simple CRM make sure every inquiry gets an answer and every estimate gets a follow-up.

    Review requests after the job

Automated review requests go out once the work is done, to help build the reviews that win the next customer. Reviews matter in every trade, and most of all where trust decides the first booking.

  4. Measure

    Know what produced the job.

    Tracking that counts calls

Calls and form fills land in GA4 and Google Tag Manager next to ad spend, so cost per lead counts the phone calls, not only the website forms.

    One plain-English report a month

Calls, forms, cost per lead and which channels produced the work worth having. Then we decide together what to change.

Shared vs. owned

Exclusive leads vs. shared lead marketplaces

Lead marketplaces such as Angi, HomeAdvisor and Thumbtack can fill a slow week. But many of their leads are sent to several pros at once, so the job often goes to whoever calls back first or bids lowest, and the customer goes back to the platform next time.

Leads from channels you own work differently: the reviews and search visibility they build keep paying off after the job. Many businesses keep a marketplace running while their own channels grow, then shift budget as the cost per booked job becomes clear.

Shared marketplace leads

  • Many leads go to several pros at once
  • The job often goes to whoever calls back first or bids lowest
  • The platform, not you, is where the customer starts next time

Leads from channels you own

  • Leads from your ads, Local Services Ads, Google Business Profile and website come straight to you
  • Reviews and search visibility keep working for you
  • You own the ad and analytics accounts, the site and the content

Home services marketing FAQs

Something else on your mind? Call 610-419-1013 or send us a message.

What does home services marketing cost with Cosmick?

It depends on the channels. As published, paid search management is typically from $1,000 a month, social media marketing typically from $500 a month, and SEO from $1,500 a month. Websites start from $5,000. Our bundled marketing program runs $1,500, $2,500 or $3,500 a month depending on ad budget, with Enterprise quoted custom, and its ad spend is paid directly to the platforms, separate from the program fee.

We quote your plan, including ad budget, after the first call.

How quickly can campaigns start?

Paid search and social campaigns typically launch in about 10 days, and the bundled program goes from signup to launch in 10 business days. SEO is slower: plan on three to six months for initial results. A new website typically takes four to eight weeks.

Do you manage Google Local Services Ads?

Yes. We manage Local Services Ads alongside Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising, and we’ll tell you whether your trade and service area are eligible before recommending it.

Can you guarantee a number of leads or a first-page ranking?

No, and be careful with anyone who does. No technique guarantees a ranking, a map placement or a lead count. What we commit to is the work, transparent tracking and a monthly report that shows what produced calls and what didn’t.

How do you know which marketing produced a call?

We use GA4, Google Tag Manager and CallTrackingMetrics, so calls and form fills are tied to the ad, keyword or page that produced them. Calls are counted like clicks.

Am I locked into a long contract?

We’ll go through terms on the first call. Our bundled marketing program is month-to-month with no setup fees.

Do I need a new website first?

Not necessarily. We often start with dedicated landing pages for your ads and improve the main site over time. If the current site is slow or hard to update, we’ll say so.

Do you work with home service businesses outside Pennsylvania?

Yes. We’re based in Allentown, PA, with offices in Lords Valley, PA and Willis, TX, and we’ve built websites for home service businesses in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Virginia.

Tell us where things stand and what you want to accomplish. We’ll help you figure out the next step.
