01 / The business need
Start with the questions customers ask.
Search work should connect the language your customers use with the services you actually provide. Technical accessibility matters, but so does a page that gives someone a useful answer. Traditional search, local discovery and generative answers overlap without being interchangeable.
A practical guide to the decisions involved. The additional explanations on this page are planning guidance; the agreed proposal defines deliverables, timing, fees and responsibilities.
The right service has no clear page.
A general homepage cannot explain every offer. Match important customer needs to substantive, specific pages rather than creating thin pages for every keyword.
Local details are inconsistent.
Business names, locations, service areas and contact information need a clear source of truth. Local visibility begins with accurate facts.
Traffic is disconnected from inquiries.
A visibility discussion should also ask which pages attract relevant people and how those people find the next step. Traffic alone is not a business outcome.
02 / How the pieces connect
Three discovery contexts. One factual foundation.
SEO, local discovery and generative optimization ask related but different questions. No markup or content technique guarantees a ranking, a map placement or an AI citation.
Search results
Can a relevant page be discovered, crawled and understood for the customer’s question?
Local discovery
Are the business details, geographic relevance and service information accurate and useful?
Generative answers
Is the information clear, specific and attributable enough to be understood in context?

Plan the search work
in the right order.
A discussion framework, adapted to the project. Not a fixed package or delivery schedule.
-
Establish the baseline
Review the website, important services, markets and available search data before deciding which issues matter.
-
Prioritize the gaps
Separate technical obstacles, missing or weak content, and inconsistent business information into a practical order.
-
Improve the foundation
Work through agreed changes to structure, content and local information while preserving useful existing material.
-
Review & adapt
Look at available visibility and inquiry signals together. Search systems and customer behavior change over time.
06 / Before we talk
SEO and GEO
questions, answered.
Bring this to the conversation.
- Your priority services and actual service areas
- Access owners for the site and existing search tools
- Common customer questions and the inquiries that matter
Can you guarantee first-page rankings or AI citations?
No. Search engines and generative platforms control their own results. A sound plan focuses on improvements within the project’s control and evaluates evidence over time, without promising a particular position or citation.
Do we need a page for every town?
Only when there is useful, accurate information for that audience. Repeating the same page with different place names is not a substitute for local relevance. Start with the markets you actually serve and the questions those customers have.
How should we judge progress?
Agree on a baseline and the data you can reliably access. Relevant queries, useful landing pages, qualified inquiries and customer context are more informative together than an isolated traffic total. Consent and attribution limitations should be explicit.
