Why sheriff’s office websites are different

A sheriff’s office website serves people on some of the hardest days of their lives. For example, a family member may be searching for someone in custody. A resident may need to report a suspicious vehicle, and a reporter may need a public record. All of them need the right page quickly, and most of them are on a phone.

In addition, the office needed a site its own team could keep current. Ten divisions, a full command staff, community programs and open positions change often. However, a county agency can’t afford an outdated website between developer visits.

Government website design built around residents

First, we organized the site around what residents come to do. Then we built the tools to support each task:

  • Emergency information on every page. 911, the non-emergency line and a Submit a Tip button stay pinned at the top of the site.
  • Quick services on the homepage. One-tap buttons cover Find Inmate, Report Crime, Records Request and Contact Us. Inmate lookup also connects to VINELink.
  • Online public service forms. Residents can submit open records requests, anonymous tips, traffic complaints and extra patrol requests online. Gravity Forms powers each form, while Cloudflare Turnstile blocks spam. There is also a fillable PDF records request form for people who prefer paper.
  • Searchable staff directory. Every deputy and command staff member has a profile. Visitors can filter by division or search by name.
  • Filterable news. Press releases, safety alerts, missing persons and traffic updates each have their own filter, so urgent information is easy to find.
  • Division pages. Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Jail Operations, Communications, K-9, Records and the Operation Lone Star Task Force each have a dedicated page.
  • Easy self-management. Custom content types for divisions, staff, news, alerts, events, programs, resources, partners and careers keep updates simple.
  • Accessibility and mobile. The site includes a skip-to-content link and an accessibility feedback link. It also works on any phone.
  • Fast, secure hosting. Finally, the site is hosted on Kinsta with Cloudflare protection, and Google Site Kit shows how residents use it.

A website that works for the community

The San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office now has a website that reflects the professionalism of the agency. Residents can request records, submit tips and report traffic concerns online at any hour. Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office team publishes news, alerts and staff changes themselves.

Cosmick Media provides government website design for counties, cities, townships, sheriff’s offices, police departments and other public agencies. If your website is hard to update or hard for residents to use, talk to our team about a custom website built for public service.
