Project overview

Lehigh Valley Outreach Depot is an Allentown, PA charity that has provided furniture, household goods and disaster relief supplies to families in crisis since 2010.

Cosmick Media designed and built the Depot’s custom WordPress website to serve caseworkers, donors and volunteers.

Project write-up

Lehigh Valley Outreach Depot has served families in the Lehigh Valley since 2010. Run by volunteers and funded by donors, this charity provides furniture, household goods and disaster relief supplies to people rebuilding after a fire, flood, eviction or other crisis. Its motto is “People Blessing People,” and our charity website design had to live up to it.

We designed and built the Outreach Depot’s website on a custom WordPress theme. It has to serve three very different groups at once: caseworkers, donors and volunteers.

Three audiences, one small team

The Depot doesn’t take walk-ins or self-referrals. Instead, caseworkers from recognized social service agencies verify each family’s needs and request an appointment. Therefore, that process has to be crystal clear, or the phone rings all day.

Meanwhile, donors want to know what to bring and when. Volunteers want to know how to help. And the Depot is only open two days a week, so the site carries much of the load.

Our charity website design

The homepage opens with the mission and three live impact numbers. When we checked in October 2026, they read 4,835 families served, 4.4k cleaning buckets shipped and 20k items repurposed. A “Ways to Donate” button and links to the Depot’s financials sit right below.

From there, the main menu then splits by audience:

  • How to Get Help explains who qualifies and how referrals work
  • Caseworkers covers the online appointment request process
  • Cleaning Buckets lists exactly what goes in each relief kit
  • Volunteer and Donate pages cover hours, drop-offs and pickup requests

The How to Get Help page sets expectations up front: appointments come through caseworkers only.

Caseworker appointments, online

Caseworkers submit appointment requests through an online form built with Gravity Forms. Next, Depot staff review each request, and the caseworker gets an email once it’s confirmed. As a result, staff spend less time on the phone and more time serving families.

The Cleaning Buckets page follows the same plain approach. Because relief kits have strict shipping rules, the page lists every item and size, word for word.

Easy to use on a phone

Many volunteers and caseworkers visit from their phones. Therefore we kept the mobile layout simple, with the phone number and address right under the logo and a clean slide-out menu.

Charity website design that works between open days

The Outreach Depot now has a site that does real work between open days. Caseworkers know the process, donors know what to bring and volunteers know how to sign up.

The challenge

What the client brought to us.

The Depot only accepts clients referred by caseworkers, and it is open just two days a week. Unclear processes meant extra calls for a small volunteer team.

Donors and volunteers also needed simple, specific instructions.

Our approach

How we tackled it.

We built a custom theme with audience-based navigation: How to Get Help, Caseworkers, Cleaning Buckets, Volunteer, Contact and Donate.

Caseworkers request appointments through a Gravity Forms application that staff review before confirming by email. The homepage highlights live impact numbers and ways to give.
