Project overview

The Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley provides confidential support, counseling, court advocacy and prevention education in Lehigh and Northampton counties, with a 24-hour hotline.

Cosmick Media designed a calm, accessible site with a visible hotline, a quick-exit button and easy donations. CVC has since moved to another platform.

Project write-up

The Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley (CVC) is a nonprofit serving Lehigh and Northampton counties. It offers free, confidential support, counseling and court advocacy, along with prevention education programs and a 24-hour hotline. Good victim services website design starts with that hotline.

We designed a website for CVC focused on safety and access. This page shows the site as we delivered it. CVC has since moved to a different platform, so the current CVC website looks different today.

Goals for the victim services website design

After all, people visiting CVC’s site may be in a hard moment. Therefore the design had to be calm, clear and quick. Above all, help had to be one tap away.

What we built

  • A 24-hour hotline button at the top of every page
  • Office locations for Allentown and Bethlehem in the header
  • A “quickly leave this site” button, so visitors could exit fast if they felt unsafe
  • Clear menus for services, events, fundraising, volunteering and media
  • A Donate button that stayed visible as visitors scrolled

Design and accessibility

First, we chose a soft teal palette and warm, hopeful photography. Headlines like “CVC’s Commitment to Victims of Violence” and “Teach. Train. Transform.” explained the mission in a few words. In addition, an accessibility toolbar let visitors adjust text and contrast.

What the victim services website design delivered

CVC got a victim services website that put the hotline first, protected visitor privacy and made it simple for supporters to give or volunteer. The events calendar also kept prevention programs and fundraisers in one place. Meanwhile, plain language throughout the site made it easier for anyone, at any reading level, to understand what help was available and how to reach it.
